I decided to start by doing some brainstorming and research. I started listing all the possible places that I find significant in San Diego.
As I was making my list, I found that the list started to turn and twist. It was not easy to try to keep it organized. I couldn’t decide if I wanted to list them by zones, seasons, audiences, prices, or time needed to visit. Many places started to overlap and I began to get a little confused about what was what, and where. I guess my next step is to figure out which will be the best way to sort this information. I need to consider that I may need to add more places if I find something of interest during the completion of my project. This is what I have so far: 1- Look at itineraries made by professionals 2- Research how to plan a tour 3- Research places to visit in SD 4- Creating a legend 5- Possibly organizing sites by: - Adults only - Family - Kids only - Free - North County o Legoland o Safari Park o Casinos § Valley View - Beaches o Mission Beach § Belmont Park o Imperial Beach o Pacific Beach o Coronado o Moonlight Beach o Oceanside o Ocean Beach o La Jolla Shores o Del Mar o Fletcher Cove - East County o Lakeside Rodeo o Country Fest o Julian § Horse back riding § Apple pie § Gold mining and panning tour o Pacific Southwest Railway Museum § Golden State ride § Museum honoring Buffalo Soldiers, US Calvary, and the American Frontier. o Casinos § Sycuan · Casino · Buffet · Powwow § Barona · Museum · Casino · Buffet · Powwow § Viejas · Shows · Shopping · Powwow - Downtown o Sight seeing § Seaport Village § Convention Center · Comic Con § Coronado Hotel § Coronado bridge § Horton Plaza Mall § Gaslamp · Bars · Restaurants · Dance Clubs § Petco park § Cruises · Dinner · Whale watching · Seal Tour (amphibious tour) o La Jolla § seals § cave § Mount Soledad § Scripps Birch Aquarium - Old Town - Museums o Balboa Park o Cabrillo Point o San Diego Mission o Star of India o Midway Museum - Theme Parks o SD Zoo o Legoland § Water park o Seaworld § Aquatica o Safari Park o Scripps Birch Aquarium - Seasonal o Summer § Sand Castle contest (Imperial Beach) § Over The Line (Mission Bay) § Powwows (Native American Festivals) § Comic Con § Del Mar · County Fair · Horse Races o Spring § SD Jazz festival o Winter § Julian (Apple pie/snow) § Boat parade of lights § Christmas light display (houses) § Pacific Southwest Railway Museum (North Pole train ride) o Fall § October Fest § Pumpkin patch § Halloween · Haunted Trails · Haunted hotel/houses § Día de los Muertos § Mother Goose Parade - All day sites - ½ day sites - 1-2 hr sites - Morning only sites - Any time sites - Weekdays only - Weekends only - Night only sites o Swing classes in North Park (wed) o Dizzy’s –Mini Concerts (Thursday-Saturday) o El Zarape live music (Thursdays) o Gaslamp bars, clubs, restaurants Thinking about possible options on what I would like to work on in my 20% project assignment, I came around something that I have always wanted to work on, but have never put time aside for it. I have a passion for traveling. I used to travel with an open itinerary and just go with the flow, discovering things as we went. It was very interesting, however, I would always come home thinking that I could have made more of my time, and sometimes disappointed for missing out on important stuff. I have found that when one visits a new place, it is worth taking time to do some research, and create a tentative itinerary. However, even after I made my own plans, I find that there are some flows due to practicalities or local issues that take place during my visit.
On my last trip I discovered that the most effective way to plan a trip is by creating a network and asking locals or people who have already visited the place, to guide me on what, where, when, how, and how long it takes to move around the area. Before our last trip to the state of Oaxaca last November, I decided to ask my family and friends to recommend a good hotel, places to eat, and things to do. I followed their recommendations and our trip ran very smoothly. We loved the hotel we stayed in, ate the best mole ever, and used every minute of our time effectively. Knowing where to go and not missing out on important things is very important for me when I travel. Every year we have family and friends visiting our home in San Diego from Mexico. And it just occurred to me that creating a tourist guide of San Diego could be a nice project that I could always use every time we have company. Authentic questions: 1- Should I use an organizing map and map it all? 2- Should I consider age groups and limitations? 3- Do I need to include different time blocks? 4- Should I limit my touring to a specific audience? 5- Should I consider budgets? 6- How educational can it be? 7- Should I go as far as recommending hotels and restaurants? 8- Will I find something new for me to do in San Diego? 9- May be I should include some guidelines for people to make their own itinerary. 10-Should I go by seasons?ow should I make it suchh |
